Honey, there's no problem here.
by Lynette Jandl

Bee keepers at area Farmers Markets have said they experienced losses in their colonies that they would have expected for a winter like the one we have just experienced. Fortunately, in our area there seems to be no problem with Colony Collapse Disorder (more info) which is destroying the livelihood of bee keepers in other parts of the country.

None of the beekeepers at three area markets (including ours) have noticed anything out of the ordinary. Thank goodness! We can keep enjoying the wonderful local honey available from Rollin' Hills at the Northside Farmers Market.

A word from our Friends at Troy Gardens...

Calling all cooks!

We’re looking for recipes—and stories—for the 4th Annual Troy Gardens Savor the Summer Cookbook!

This little cookbook features favorite recipes from Northsiders, Troy Gardeners, and anyone else who likes to eat. What makes the Savor the Summer Cookbook special is that it includes pictures and brief stories from the people who submit the recipes. You might tell us about where the recipe came from, where you came from, what you like about gardening, how you use the recipe, lessons from your grandmother, secrets of the Northside, or anything else you the cook would like to share with the readers of the Savor the Summer Cookbook.

Neighborhood leaders—represent your neighborhood by submitting your own recipe or by encouraging interesting folks in your neck of the Northside to share a recipe and a few words!

Previous North Star Award winners—step up again and submit your favorite recipe. The Northside is counting on you!

Everyone who submits a recipe along with a picture and a brief paragraph or two will receive three complimentary copies of the Savor the Summer Cookbook. It makes a great gift—and you’ll be in it!

Contact the Cookbook Editor, Marge Pitts via email or call 770-4344 and leave a message. Do it soon—the deadline is mid-June!

And mark the date—Saturday, August 2, for the Savor the Summer Festival at Troy Gardens , 3-8pm.
